In my college years, I was at a
get-to-know-you group activity. We had to list I think one or two of our
talents. I thought, “what am I great at?” Nothing really came to mind; I then
thought, “what do I love to do?”
Reflecting on my life I was amazed at the
things that I have done and tried. The first memory that came to mind was one
year for Christmas I ask Santa for two things; a cake baking kit and
a fishing kit. This shows that my range of interests is far, wide and
in-between. I was blessed with parents that let me try so many things and I
have kept this mentality.
Here is a list! It tried to think if as many
things as I could. I recommend everyone do this activity it puts your
life and abilities into perspective. The bolded is the
things that I liked and CAPITALIZED is what I still do or
occasionally do.
Tap dance, ballet, gymnastics (hilarious if you knew how tall I am and how short the beams were), choir, violin, clarinet, ARCHERY, karate, piano, master gardener class (GARDENING), CNA certification, storytelling contests, battle of the books, basketball, babysitting, RAFTING, SWIMMING, CULINARY ARTS, automatics, BEEKEEPING, rabbit keeping, chicken keeping, computer programming (confused the whole time), woodworking, image and self development class, CYCLING, modeling, CAKE DECORATING, track (I attempted shot-put, high jump, long jump,100 to 400 meter race, relay race, and then my favorite long distance RUNNING), french, NUT GATHERING, CANNING, FOOD DRYING, caregiver, dodgeball team, floor hockey team, lacrosse team, ultimate frisbee team, assembly line worker, bookbinding, SHOE MAKING, TEACHING, church leadership positions, tanning animal hides, income tax preparer, military fitness, AMERICAN SIGN LANGUAGE, SEWING, office assistant, CROCHETING, knitting, mushroom hunting, serving a mission, CAMPING, FISHING, traveling, knife forging, BACKPACKING, house cleaning service, Business Management Degree, ROCK CLIMBING, YOGA, DAUGHTER, SIBLING, WIFE, MOTHER
So this is how I answered the question, “My
talent is the LOVE OF LEARNING.” Trying something new is at times scary but I
did not and will not let this stop me. I consider myself a ‘Jack of All Trades
and Master of None (yet)’.
Everyone has a list. Don't sell yourself short
and think you don't have any talents. Make a list and include personality characteristics. Then strive
to improve item or add too the list.
As always Rachel you luminate my life. You truly are an angel of learning!
ReplyDeleteMom, you and dad created a wonderful environment for all us kids to grow and learn in. Thank you.
DeleteVery well said!
ReplyDeleteNow you can add BLOGGER to the list! :)
ReplyDeleteI love this! And I'm so happy you have a blog! And I had to laugh when I saw "[bold] CROCHETING, [not bold] knitting." I couldn't agree more.
ReplyDeleteThis list is such a good idea. I'm going to do the same thing. You are brilliant and inspiring. Always. <3
Love crocheting and knitting is definitely not as satisfying. just wish that crocheting was not so hard on my wrist i would do it more often. Kjerstin, you are the inspiring one. Love you and miss you.
